This policy lists every cookie and browser storage item RustGamblingReviews uses. The list is short. We do not use advertising cookies, and our own analytics work without any cookies at all.
1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser so it can remember something between pages or between visits. Local storage does a similar job, but the information stays in your browser and is not sent to our server with every request.
Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company's service running on that site are third-party cookies.
2. Cookies and storage we always use
These items are set by RustGamblingReviews itself and only do the job described. They do not track you across other websites, and none of them is used for analytics or advertising.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| rgr_lang | Remembers the language you chose for the site | 12 months | Functional, first-party cookie |
| rgr_consent | Stores your cookie choice so the banner does not reappear on every page | 6 months | Necessary, first-party cookie |
| rgr_sess | Session cookie set only when you submit a review or the contact form, used for spam protection | Until you close your browser | Necessary, first-party cookie |
| rgr_theme | Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode | Until you clear your browser's site data | Functional, browser localStorage (not a cookie) |
Because these items only support features you use yourself (a language or theme you picked, a form you sent, a choice you made in the banner), we treat them as strictly necessary and do not ask for consent before setting them.
3. Optional analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4)
The site may use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic in more detail. If the site owner enables it, it loads only after you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner. Until you accept, no Google Analytics script runs and no Google Analytics cookie is set.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Used by Google Analytics to distinguish one visitor from another | 2 years | Analytics, set on our domain by Google's script, only with consent |
| _ga_* | Used by Google Analytics to keep track of the current session (the * is replaced by our GA4 property ID) | 2 years | Analytics, set on our domain by Google's script, only with consent |
Google describes how it uses this data in its own privacy policy and Google Analytics documentation. Our privacy policy explains what this means for international transfers and your rights.
4. Our cookieless analytics
Separately from Google Analytics, we run our own first-party analytics on our server. It sets no cookie and stores no full IP address. To count unique visits it uses a salted hash of your IP address, and the salt changes every day, so visits cannot be linked from one day to the next. The details are in our privacy policy.
5. Partner sites
When you click a "Visit" button, a /go/ link sends you on to the partner site. That site may set its own cookies once you arrive, including a referral cookie that tells it you came from us. Those cookies belong to the partner and are covered by the partner's cookie policy. We cannot read them, change them or delete them. Our affiliate disclosure explains how these links work.
6. How to change your consent
You can change your mind whenever you like. Click "Cookie settings" in the footer of any page to reopen the cookie banner, then accept or decline analytics cookies. Your new choice is saved in the rgr_consent cookie.
If you withdraw consent, Google Analytics will not load on the pages you visit after that. Cookies Google already set may stay in your browser until they expire, so if you want them gone straight away, delete _ga and _ga_* for our site in your browser settings.
7. How to block or delete cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies. The settings usually sit under Privacy or Privacy and security:
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies or Site settings.
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari on Mac: Settings, then Privacy, where you can manage website data and block cookies.
- Safari on iPhone and iPad: the Settings app, then Safari.
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
Menu names change between browser versions, so if you cannot find an option, search your browser's help pages for "cookies". Clearing site data or website data also removes local storage such as rgr_theme.
If you block all cookies, the site will still work for reading. It will forget your language choice and ask about cookies again on each visit, and the review and contact forms may refuse to submit because the spam check cannot set its session cookie. Private or incognito windows delete our cookies when you close them.
8. Changes and contact
If we add, remove or change a cookie, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions about cookies can go to contact@rustgamblingreviews.com or through our contact page.
